Demolition: Tinubu Government Plunging Nigerians Deeper Into Poverty – Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has lambasted the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for plunging Nigerians deeper into poverty.
Obi’s remarks followed incidents of the demolition of business premises of Nigerians in Lagos and some parts of the country.
He said, “These acts of demolition send a chilling message to entrepreneurs across the nation and beyond: that their hard work and sacrifices can be wiped away overnight.”
Obi urged Nigerians to stand against such injustices, insisting that if citizens fail to stand against it, “we risk undermining the very foundations of economic growth and social stability.”
He maintained that, “Every citizen has the right to build a life through honest work, and that right must never be trampled.”
Reacting to the dastardly acts in an X publication, Obi frowned at the actions, stressing that it “is happening across the country at a time when the government is supposed to be lifting citizens out of poverty.”
The former Anambra State governor, while condemning what he described as the willful destruction of people’s property and goods, questioned why such actions are taken by governments at any level without notice.
According to Obi, “The recent demolition of citizens’ structures and the destruction of their goods and merchandise remain condemnable.”
The former Labour Party’s flagbearer criticised the Tinubu administration’s policies and style, adding that having sent several million Nigerians into poverty in 29 months, it should show compassion for its citizens.
“This is happening across the country at a time when the government is supposed to be lifting citizens out of poverty. Instead, it is plunging them deeper into hardship.
“These demolitions destroy livelihoods, undermine businesses, and threaten the economic security of hardworking citizens.
“Many of these shops contained goods worth billions of Naira, representing years of investment and toil.
“What legal authority justifies the destruction of private property—clearly not used for criminal purposes—without prior notice or due process?
